- and the Octet that it inspired (2018), by leading contemporary Welsh composer John Metcalf

The Berkeley Ensemble was formed by friends in a spirit of adventure. ‘An instinctive collective’ (The Strad), its members have come together from diverse corners of musical life to make music in new ways, reach new audiences; and explores little-known twentieth-and twenty first-century British chamber music alongside a more established repertoire.

Celebrated saxophonist and presenter Jess Gillam, along with her long-time collaborators Zeynep Özsuca (piano) and Sam Becker, (double bass) weaves a programme of fantastic lesser known repertoire with fresh takes on some firm favourites

Jess Gillam is a celebrated saxophonist and presenter. With her electrifying performances, vibrant stage presence and magnetic personality, the ‘uniquely mercurial’ (The Times) Jess has been invited to play on the world’s major stages since becoming the youngest ever soloist to perform at the Last Night of the Proms. Equally at home behind the microphone, Jess’ award-winning weekly show, This Classical Life, on BBC Radio 3 is now in its eighth season. Jess is passionate about broadening the repertoire for the saxophone, especially in the classical sphere.
